McCain has been suffering serious damage to his campaign and probably does not stand a chance based on his position on Iraq, but you gotta hand it to a man like him - he stands by his beliefs.
I would not vote for McCain because we have widely different views, but I nonetheless believe he would make a good president because I believe he is of good moral character.
I was pulling hard for John in the 2004 election, but I think that was his last good shot at the office. I respect the man, and I think he would make a good President, but I don't think he would be able to beat the Democratic candidate, whoever it ends up being. Given all that's been happening to his campaign lately, I'd be surprised to see him stay in the race very much longer.
I have to agree that it may be rough waters ahead given the state of his campaign problems. That said, McCain has always run better as an underdog and though he started this campaign as the front runner maybe now is his chance to come back from behind.
The real problem for McCain is his stance on Iraq and on support for the current administration.
In the debates so far, he hasn't talked about anything other than supporting the war and his time in a prison camp. He hasn't gotten into the issues, he hasn't given his stances or views, he's hoping that much like Giuliani screaming 9/11 that his talk of being in a prison camp will get the public to rally behind him, and that's just not going to happen.
I believe the strength of America lies in the strength of her people. That means a strong military, strong economy, and strong families.- Gov. Mitt Romney
McCain shot himself in the foot, as far as the Republican nomination goes, by going after amnesty for illegal immigrants. I agree with the previous post, he does not seem to be putting forth any solutions to issues facing us today. It is nice that he like the troops, but there are many other things that it takes to be president.
